I'm a gamer and programmer and I like to mix the two together. I currently just code websites (everything on this site was built from scratch) while I also have some websites in production that are focused around gaming.

I used to map on the Quake 3 engine, I know the screenshots look bad but I had learned a lot about the engine. The hardest thing in level design is thinking up a great design, the actual building just takes many hours (20 hours+) and is a skill that isn't hard to learn especially with all those great tutorials out there.

You can't stop once you have learned the mapping tools though, you soon move into how the engine works to keep frame rates high, shader and texture creation to make your maps look good and also how bots work to make your maps more navigatable.
